The Idea Behind Momiji Kaze: Where Autumn Colours Meet Moving Air

The Idea Behind Momiji Kaze: Where Autumn Colours Meet Moving Air

A name inspired by nature

In Japan, the arrival of autumn is not simply marked by a change in temperature.

It is watched in the mountains, reflected in rivers and celebrated through art, poetry and journeys taken specifically to admire the changing leaves.

This tradition is known as momijigari (紅葉狩り). Although the word is sometimes translated literally as “autumn leaf hunting”, it refers to the act of seeking out and appreciating autumn foliage. The practice dates back to Japan’s Heian period, when court aristocrats travelled beyond Kyoto to view the coloured leaves, composing music and poetry against landscapes of red, amber and gold.

It reflects a way of experiencing nature that goes beyond appearance.

The leaves are valued not only for their colour, but for their transformation—the brief period when a familiar landscape changes before the leaves eventually fall. Autumn foliage becomes an invitation to slow down, observe the season and appreciate a moment that will not remain the same for long.

That sense of movement and seasonal change became the starting point for the NNIO Momiji Kaze Collection.

The meaning behind Momiji Kaze

The name brings together two Japanese words:

Momiji (紅葉) refers to leaves turning red or yellow during autumn, as well as the coloured leaves themselves. The word is also closely associated with maple trees, whose leaves have become one of Japan’s most recognisable symbols of the season.

Kaze (風) means wind—the natural movement or flow of air.

Momiji Kaze is not intended as a literal Japanese expression. Instead, it is a poetic pairing that evokes a particular scene: autumn leaves shifting, turning and scattering as the breeze moves through them.

It is a meeting of colour and motion.

Of something visible and something that can only be felt.

This relationship between autumn leaves and movement has long appeared in Japanese creative culture. The National Diet Library highlights the image of maple leaves scattered across the Tatsutagawa River, a scene celebrated in classical waka poetry and later translated into decorative patterns and design.

For Momiji Kaze, the inspiration lies in that same interaction.

A leaf does not move on its own. Its movement reveals the air around it - rising, turning and changing direction as the wind passes through.

In the same way, airflow inside a home is usually invisible. It is only experienced through its effects: a curtain shifting, air travelling across the room or a warm space gradually becoming more comfortable.

The Momiji Kaze Collection gives this invisible movement a visual identity shaped by autumnal colours, soft forms and adaptable air circulation.

Bringing the feeling home

Singapore may not experience the transformation of autumn, but the feeling behind Momiji Kaze remains relevant.

It is the desire to create a home that feels calmer.

To make time spent indoors more comfortable.

And to surround ourselves with objects that are not only functional, but considered in how they look, move and become part of everyday life.

The collection translates the warmth and tranquillity associated with autumn into appliances designed for Singapore’s year-round climate. Its warm neutral palette softens the traditionally industrial appearance of a fan, while its air-circulation technology recreates the central image behind its name: air moving freely and naturally through a space.

Three expressions of moving air

The Momiji Kaze Collection was created around a simple idea: comfort should adapt to the space, rather than forcing the space to adapt around it.

Three products express that idea in different ways.

YUKAZE brings the breeze closer. OKAZE allows it to move more freely around the room. SOYOKAZE lifts it above the floor, circulating air through spaces where every centimetre matters.

Different forms, but one shared philosophy: thoughtful airflow, understated design and everyday comfort.

YUKAZE: A personal breeze for quieter moments

YUKAZE 10" BLDC Air Circulation Fan is the most compact expression of the Momiji Kaze philosophy. It's 10-inch form fits naturally on desks, bedside tables and smaller corners, creating targeted airflow without taking over the space.

It is designed for the quieter moments of everyday life: reading beside the bed, working through a warm afternoon or winding down at the end of the day.

Five speed settings let the airflow shift from gentle circulation to stronger cooling, while its built-in mood light adds a softer ambience to the room. Timer controls and remote operation make it easy to adjust without interrupting the moment. It can also run from a compatible power bank, giving users more flexibility over where it is placed.

Within the collection, YUKAZE represents the subtle breeze: close, calming and personal.

OKAZE: Airflow that moves with the room

Where YUKAZE focuses on personal comfort, OKAZE 12" BLDC Air Circulation Fan expands the breeze across the home.

The 12-inch air circulator uses 3D oscillation to move air from side to side and up and down, with selectable oscillation angles for more considered coverage. Its convertible-height design allows it to shift between different placements and room layouts, from a lower bedside position to a taller setup for living rooms and shared spaces.

Like leaves responding to the direction of the wind, OKAZE does not remain fixed in one form or send air towards only one point. It is designed to circulate airflow more widely and adjust to the way the room is being used.

With 12 speed settings, Sleep Mode, an eight-hour timer and remote control, the airflow can be softened for rest or increased when broader circulation is needed.

OKAZE represents the moving breeze: flexible, responsive and able to travel throughout the room.

SOYOKAZE: A gentle breeze without the footprint

SOYOKAZE 15" BLDC Wall Air Circulation Fan completes the collection by bringing airflow onto the wall, keeping tables and walkways clear while circulating air across the room.

Its wall-mounted design is especially suited to compact homes, shared spaces and rooms where furniture placement leaves little room for a standing fan. Wide oscillation helps distribute air more consistently, while 10 speed settings allow the breeze to move from gentle circulation to stronger cooling.

Natural Mode varies the airflow to create a less uniform breeze, while Eco Mode adjusts its output according to the room temperature to support more energy-conscious use. A 12-hour timer and remote control provide added convenience throughout the day.

SOYOKAZE represents the ever-present breeze: felt throughout the space without occupying the centre of it.

One collection, shaped around different homes

Each product responds to a different everyday need, but they are connected by the same design language and approach to comfort: efficient BLDC motor technology, adjustable airflow, convenient controls and forms created to sit more naturally within the home.

They are shaped around the different ways people experience air - from a quiet personal breeze to airflow that moves throughout an entire room.

Gentle breezes in autumn hues

The Momiji Kaze Collection represents a softer way to think about cooling.

Not only in terms of performance, but in how cooling technology looks, feels and becomes part of everyday life.

A meeting of warm autumn colours and moving air.

Of modern function and natural inspiration.

Of three different products, each expressing the breeze in its own way.

That is the idea behind Momiji Kaze 🍁.
